The night started with me and ma ami, Allie, drove to Minneapolis with my inexperienced driving skills and made it there alive, a good start. We walked through the city without a real plan and with multiple stops to snap a few pics like the lunatics we are we decided on one of my favorite pizza joints for dinner.
Then it was time for the concert, tickets purchased just a couple hours prior, with a general air of excitement but expectations were unknown. The venue, Mill City Nights, was the perfect size and an open layout. The opening act was a band called "Oh Honey" which I did not know prior. The band was dressed up for the occasion as Peter Pan, Tinkerbell, and the lost boys which was cute and their music was filled with powerful, unique vocals. The energy of the drummer, guitarist, and bass player was also fun to watch. We even got to meet them after the show (Picture Below) and they were nice and chatty, and genuinely wanted to know what we thought of the show, I will be purchasing their album and supporting them in the future.
The next act was a band I was familiar with called "The Mowglis", with popular songs "San Francisco" and one of my favorites "Say it, Just Say it". The band was dressed up as 'Goths' and tried their best despite their cheerful tunes to stay in character, "Hello we are the Mowglis and it's totally lame to be here.", it was also the lead female vocalist's birthday which always makes concerts special in my opinion. Their energy was amazing, with confident/likeable stage presence and they didn't hold back during any of their songs, definitely showing the passion they have for their music. Overall an amazing performance.
The main act was American Authors, which I was apathetic about watching, but boy was I wrong! Their music is much more varied than their songs that get put on the radio, in fact my favorite song they preformed isn't even recorded yet, but they somehow managed to get the entire audience singing along. The band was dressed as comic book villains and they went all out. Minneapolis was the lead singers home town and lead to a passionate performance from the whole band. Audience interaction was one of the best I've experienced, the talent in the band is definitely something the radio does not give them enough justice for (the acoustic performance gave me goosebumps), I also appreciated how hardworking and genuine the band seemed no ego and refreshing self deprecating humor throughout.
I wouldn't of chosen to spend my Halloween night anywhere else, if you have not heard of these artists before I would definitely recommend looking them up and if you have I promise the more you dig into their albums the better the music gets.
Here are some pictures from the show, I apologies for the quality but I try to spend as little time on my phone or camera at concerts as possible:
