Study Corner

For me school is always something I've taken a little too seriously. I get caught up in the future that I forget to focus on now, which can lead to problems for me emotionally and physically if I do not keep my Type A habits in line. However over this past year especially I have learned study habits, learning techniques, and overall lifestyle that has helped me considerably in my academic career and my well-being.

Tips To Know:
1) Have a designated time that you promise yourself to put the books away and reserve time for sleep, the most important part of the memory retaining process.

2) Take breaks when you need to, although interrupting flow can be inefficient, when your mind is telling you to stop maybe a round of candy crush or a quick twitter check-up is just what you (Or at least your brain) needs. Don't abuse this however, try to keep to the perfect amount of time for your mind to catch up so you can return to your work with a fresh slate.

3) Try to keep your study environment the same or as close to your test taking environment as possible. As my favorite Psychology teacher once put it "Get off the princess bed", this will not only help you during testing time to better recall the material, but sleeping time too. Let your bed be used solely for sleep and relaxation, don't taint it with stress and algebra equations.

4) Relate the material to yourself in some way. We remember much more when it stimulates our interest. Even if this is in the form of mnemonics (e.g visualizing Abraham Lincoln handing you the Emancipation Proclamation that is 1863 pages long)

5) Finally, don't stress too much on the things that happen today, time heals all wounds. A grade you get today, won't be remembered tomorrow, or at least a year from now. I will work on this with you too.

Hopefully my inner nerd didn't come off too strong in this post, but at the same time it's part of who I am and I love it. Let me know if these tips helped you in your upcoming finals and what you do to study.

All my love,

Georgia xx
